Our story · Since 1985

Locally owned, in blue button-downs, since 1985.

Colonial Lawn & Garden started in 1985 and has kept its lawn, tree, sprinkler and pest work in Yakima and the Tri-Cities ever since. Lance is CEO and president, a leadership team you can meet by first name runs the departments, and two offices, one in Yakima and one in Richland, answer the phones.

The uniform

Why a landscaping company ended up in blue.

When Colonial opened in 1985, only a couple of landscaping companies put their crews in uniforms, which made Colonial stand out. The first shirts and hats were green. Over the years the company moved to blue button-down shirts and added charcoal pants later, and that is what the crews in every photo on this site are wearing.

“The blue was a nice, professional-looking color. It didn’t have to be green just because we’re in the green industry.”

As the article described it, lawn care and spray crews wear long sleeves and maintenance crews wear short sleeves unless they are pruning, all in the same style so the fleet looks consistent from one street to the next.

“By definition uniform means it’s the same, right? So we like to build teamwork and professionalism any way we can and it’s just one more way to set us apart from the sea of competition out there.”

What Colonial says it is after

Results, a fair price, and attention to the individual yard.

Colonial’s own description is short: positive results, fair value, and close attention to what each customer needs. The company says it keeps its landscape work hands-on so the details get covered, and that it works to build win-win relationships with the people it serves.

Customers back that up in their own words. Colonial holds a 4.8 on Google from 516 reviews, and several recent reviews name the technician who showed up and what he did that day.
