Pre-emergent weed control in Pasco

Weeds can wreck a healthy-looking Pasco lawn in a few weeks, then compete with the grass for water, nutrients and sunlight. Colonial's pre-emergent treatments stop them before they start.

Seeds that wait

Pre-emergent is a chemical applied to the soil that suppresses seed germination. It matters most with weeds like goatheads, also called puncture vine, whose seeds can last in the soil for up to 7 years and then germinate if given the chance.

That is why we apply pre-emergent inside both of our lawn programs, Economy and Premium, and in our shrub bed weed control program. When it is timed correctly it stops the stubborn Pasco weeds like crabgrass, foxtail and dandelions before they appear.

What you notice after a season

  • No season of pulling and spraying

    seeds are blocked from germinating.

  • Healthier grass

nothing competes with the lawn for space, water and sun.

  • Neater curb appeal

a thick, even lawn looks well kept.

  • Less money spent later

fewer treatments needed in the summer.

  • Seasonal coverage

early spring and fall treatments cover the weeds of each season.

Paired with fertilizer

We pair pre-emergent with fertilization and the rest of the lawn health program so the grass grows thicker and becomes naturally harder for weeds to take. Technicians also apply post-emergent to any weeds that break through.

Colonial has served the Tri-Cities since 1985. We are a local company, we know Pasco's soil and weather, and our licensed technicians keep the timing on track.

Pasco pre-emergent questions

  • What is pre-emergent weed control?

A treatment that prevents seeds from sprouting. It does not kill existing weeds.

  • When is the best time in Pasco?

Early spring and fall. We schedule around local weather and soil conditions.

  • Is it safe for my lawn?

Yes, when applied correctly. It targets weed seeds only.

  • Does one treatment last all season?

Most last several months, but lawns often do better with more than one application a year.
