Lawn treatment in Yakima
Treatment means the feed, weed control and insect protection that keep a Yakima lawn thick through the year. Colonial's Yakima office runs it on a six-application schedule.

What goes on a Yakima lawn
After a look at your soil and your grass, we set a program for the lawn rather than a generic product list. Each part has a job.
Fertilization
a feeding schedule that gives the grass the nutrients it needs to grow.
Weed management
pre-emergent in spring and post-emergent follow-up on what pushes through.
Insect control
lawn-damaging insects, including grubs, are covered in the Premium program.
Aeration
opens the soil so roots can take in more water and air.
The weeds we see in the valley
Dandelions, clover, bindweed (morning glory), plantain, mallow, goathead, oxalis and spurge are the usual list. Crabgrass is stopped with a spring pre-emergent applied before it germinates, and the spray trucks carry post-germination materials for the rest.
Six applications, two options
Premium starts between mid-February and mid-March and finishes with a late-fall slow-release feed in mid-November. Economy is the first four applications, ending in August. Applications can slide about two weeks either way, with an average of six weeks between them.
After the application
Treatments are usually rain fast within four hours. If an inch or more of rain falls inside that window, we may need to revisit about two weeks later so the lawn is not over-fed. Light rain after the window does not hurt, and often helps. All materials are EPA approved, and children and pets are safe on the lawn once it has dried.
