Summer lawn maintenance
Summer is when the lawn is most active, and when heat and uneven rain do the most damage. Colonial's crews in Yakima and the Tri-Cities keep lawns going through it.

What a summer visit covers
Neglect in extreme heat shows up fast and can undo a spring's work. We tailor the service to the grass type, soil and climate, and build the visit list from the lawn.
Mowing and edging
regular cuts and clean edges.
Watering
sprinkler checks keep coverage even.
Fertilizing
nutrients for vigorous growth.
Weed management
treatment of weeds that appear in summer.
Pest control
lawn-damaging insects handled.
Dethatching and aeration
lets roots breathe and take up nutrients.
Why the schedule matters in July
A lawn that has been mowed and watered properly grows thick enough to crowd out weeds. Fertilization supplies the nutrients, and aeration lets roots take them up. The result is a lawn that handles heat, drought and pests better.
The Premium program keeps going through the summer, with applications about six weeks apart.
Summer reseeding and weeds
Summer is a hard time to seed. New lawn seed needs several short waterings, three to four times a day, to germinate in the heat, and weeds germinate right alongside it and need more control. For most lawns we prefer fall, when the Kentucky bluegrass blend germinates in cooler weather and most weeds are past their cycle.
Rain and treatments
Applications are usually rain fast within four hours. Summer storms that drop an inch or more inside that window may mean a revisit two weeks later. Light rain afterward is fine and sometimes helps. Fertilizers are kid and pet friendly once dry.
